RELEASE WHAT'S NO LONGER SERVING YOU
There’s nothing like the musky, earthiness that’s woven through this beautiful season of fall. We await autumn with anticipation for the cooler weather and favorite pastimes like football, hiking, apple-picking…and the many wonders of pumpkin spice!
Fall also carries a beautiful theme of letting go. As the trees release their auburn leaves, we are given the opportunity to pause and reflect on what’s no longer serving us in our own lives. We tend to hold onto jobs, people, beliefs and more because it feels safer to keep ties to the past than to create new paths to the future.
But instead of holding tightly to the safety of the familiar, it’s essential to our growth to pay attention to that inner nudge that tells us when it’s time to let go of something or someone…and then to actually let go.
Here are 5 tips to help you identify and release what’s no longer serving you...
- 1. Do a daily or weekly check in.
Check in with yourself regularly and sit with your feelings. What feels good in your life? And what doesn’t? Are you irritated or angry? Sad or lonely? What do you need right now? How do you want to feel? The more you sit with these questions, journal on them or even speak them aloud, the easier it will be to clarify what things in your life you may want to release. - 2. Take action.
Once you identify what’s no longer serving you, it’s time to do the scary thing.
Make plans to finally leave the job you dread going to every day. Have the tough conversation with your friend, partner, or family member. Do the thing that feels scary to do because when you honor your inner knowing and act on it, you are creating more space and energy for new blessings. - 3. Let yourself grieve.
You won’t always feel happy or relieved about letting go. It may even feel like the end of an era and that can feel tremendously sad or scary. Feel your feelings. Get cozy with a warm blanket and a soothing cup of Serenity tea and cry if you need to. Take the time you need to process your sense of loss in this time of transition. - 4. Give yourself grace.
When you let go of someone or something, you’re creating a new path for yourself.
It may feel bittersweet at first, so give yourself time and grace as you shift from the familiar to the unknown. Practice a little more self care than usual. - 5. Embrace your new journey.
Once you’ve had some time to process your feelings, consider the new possibilities that lay ahead. Shift into the new energy by actively trying new things. Go somewhere you’ve never been like a new restaurant, a new business or drive to a nearby town and explore. Do something creative like a sip ‘n paint class to help express yourself and make a few new friends while you’re there. Everything has a season and it’s important that we are mindful of what we’re still holding onto once we realize its season has passed. Make sure to sit with yourself and check in every so often so you learn to recognize when it’s time to let go. When you release what’s no longer serving you, you create space for new blessings.
