LIFE BALANCE
Creating balance in life means something different to everyone. We’re all unique and we’re all on different paths, so what’s important to you may not hold the same significance to someone else. We all have different priorities so balance is going to look different for you than it does for someone else.
It’s also important to note that creating balance doesn’t mean that every part of your life is always exactly where you want it to be. As your priorities shift from day to day and over longer periods of time, your focus and energy shift as well.
When you’re feeling —-, it can be helpful to look at different areas of your life and how you feel mentally, physically, spiritually, financially, etc. But because things are constantly shifting, you might want to approach it a little differently.
5 JOURNAL QUESTIONS FOR MORE LIFE BALANCE
- What’s important to you right now? And what will be important to you over the next several years?
When you can identify what matters to you most right now, and what matters to you long-term in the next five, ten or twenty years, you always have a guiding point. This helps you better ascertain whether or not you’re putting your time and energy into the areas that are aligned with your priorities. - What can you release right now?
Now that you know what matters to you most, what can you release that doesn’t align with your priorities? You don’t have to say yes to everything. You don’t have to say yes just because you’ve done something before or because you’re good at it. You have limited time and energy, so let go of the things that are not aligned with your priorities. - What can you delegate?
Once you let go of what’s not serving you, look at what’s left. Is there anything you can delegate? Are there household chores that can be spread out between your partner and children? Can you take turns carpooling with other parents for school, sports or activities? Can you get your groceries delivered or hire someone to clean your house so that’s one less thing on your list? The more you can delegate, the time, energy and balance you can create in your life. - What can you do today to feel good?
You don’t have to book a trip to the spa every day, but the more you can take care of yourself in small ways, the more balanced you will feel. So do simple things each day that feel good. Take a walk outside in the sunshine, or in the evening as the sun sets if that’s your thing. Indulge in a sweet treat. Take a dance class. Or buy yourself a luxurious fragrance. Don’t wait weeks or months to do something for yourself. Do the small things so there is always something in your day that feels good. - How can you be more intentional each day?
You know how days and weeks can pass where there are things you think about doing but you find yourself on the daily loop of taking care of your family, going to work and having the occasional night out with your friends? Ask yourself how you want to use your time each day. Do you want to work on your business? Do you want to finally start writing that book? Do you want to meditate in the morning with that scent-sational new candle that’s just been waiting for you to relax in its soft glow? The more intentional you are with your day, the more fulfilled you will feel.
Life will never feel perfectly balanced. And when it feels like a chaotic mess, give yourself some grace. You’re doing your best as life shifts and your priorities change over time. When you’re in the midst of that dizzy, unbalanced feeling, sit with yourself and journal through these 5 questions and you will start to create more balance in your life.
